They say that a street photographer must have a good eye and comfortable shoes. The members of the Czech Street Report certainly have a good eye (we have no information about their shoes). The founder of this large photography group, Jan Jirkovský, has selected 35 photos from the past year representing the best that its members have created.
Street photography is of great importance because it records for future generations real life as it is experienced by each of us today. In the Czech Republic, it is significantly represented by the Street Report group, which brings together more than 2,800 photographers – from professional to pure amateurs.
Various branches of street photography meet in the group: documentary, reportage and artistic. “It is intended for both advanced and beginner photographers who are familiar with the genre of street photography, want to develop further in it and are happy to participate in discussions about their own published images, but also about the work of other members,” says Jan Jirkovský – founder of the group and this year’s Czech Press Photo winner in the Art and Culture category.
The basis of Street Report’s work is the Facebook group of the same name. However, its members meet in person at joint meetings during the year. “The goal is to create a pleasant environment in the group. In the long term, we rely on the decency and correctness of the members. We want people who share the same interest to meet here and learn something from each other thanks to a joint discussion,” states Jirkovský, adding that the group offers budding photographers help develop their skills under the guidance of more experienced photographers.
