In a recent interview for People’s special issue dedicated to the upcoming film “Barbie,” Simu Liu disclosed that all the male actors who played Ken in the movie decided to form a group chat with the Barbie cast as a way to show support without being overbearing. However, one Ken, played by Michael Cera, revealed that he was left out of the conversation due to his preference for a flip phone.

Cera explained, “I don’t have an iPhone myself. … I have a flip phone.” He accepted his exclusion, highlighting that his character, Allan, is portrayed as being in his own little world in the film.

This is not the first time Michael Cera has expressed his disinterest in modern technology. In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the “Superbad” actor shared his aversion to smartphones and social media, stating that he feared losing control of his waking life. Cera recalled a lunch with a friend who continuously checked and responded to emails on his new BlackBerry, leaving him feeling lonely and bored, which contributed to his early aversion to modern gadgets.

Meanwhile, the “Barbie” cast members found numerous ways to have fun together during filming. Ryan Gosling revealed that Margot Robbie, who plays Barbie, instituted a mandatory pink dress code once a week on set. Failure to comply resulted in fines, with the collected money being donated to charity.

Gosling described the pink dress code as not only enjoyable but also “really special” as it created excitement among the male crew members. In a heartwarming gesture, the crew members even designed their own pink shirts with rainbow fringe using their own money as a sign of respect and admiration for Robbie and director Greta Gerwig.

The filming set of “Barbie” was evidently filled with laughter, with Robbie admitting that she ruined several of Gosling’s takes due to her constant laughter. She further praised Gosling’s comedic talent, calling him “the most comedically gifted actor” she has ever worked with.

“Barbie,” featuring an ensemble cast including Issa Rae, Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, and Will Ferrell, is set to hit theaters on July 21.

This heartwarming behind-the-scenes camaraderie perfectly complements the highly anticipated release of “Barbie,” which promises to bring the beloved doll to life in a whole new way.
