The League advises that Gavi will have to play again with a club card, but Barça denies this

by time news

BarcelonaGavi is not a Barça first team player, according to the League. On the other hand, the Blaugrana organization maintains a completely opposite version. The precautionary measures that a judge of Barcelona’s mercantile number 12 granted to Barça in February to be able to register Gavi as a first team player would have been “without effect”. This has been notified by the aforementioned court. Barça, however, maintains that “it is a decision by the lawyer of the Administration of Justice that is not final” and that, therefore, “the precautionary measures are still in force”. “Gavi is still registered as a first team player”, they say from the noble offices of the Camp Nou. Barça has five days – starting this Tuesday – to appeal the court’s notice.

This communication from the justice comes because the Blaugrana entity would not have respected the administrative deadlines in the change of the La Masia footballer’s file because it did not file a lawsuit against the League in time, according to the decree of the commercial court number 12. “LaLiga has received notification from Barcelona commercial court number 12 informing of the lifting of the precautionary measures agreed on January 31, 2023 for the Gavi case, due to the fact that FC Barcelona did not comply with the deadlines established for the presentation of the main demand”, announced, for its part, the football employers’ association, chaired by Javier Tebas. From the Blaugrana club, however, they defend the opposite. “It has not been submitted out of time,” they say.

League regulations prevented Gavi from being registered as a member of the first team after renewing his contract last September and increasing his salary to match that of other first team players. The regulations dictate that clubs that have obtained extra funding, such as for example the sale of assets – Barça generated income from the sale of levers – must prove that they can include the wages of new registered players not only in the current season of registration, but also in the following two. In which, in the opinion of the League, Barça will continue to be exceeded in the fair play financial, according to Javier Tebas. This is the main stumbling block that prevents the League from including Gavi’s new contract.

Gavi will be able to continue playing

For practical purposes, however, nothing changes. Barça will be able to continue to have the player from the squad and Gavi will not stop being in the dynamics of the first team. The midfielder could no longer be registered as a member of the first team, but he will be able to continue playing as before, only that he would have to do it again with the file of the subsidiary. If the lifting of the precautionary measures ends up being firm, Barça will have to sign Gavi’s new contract in the summer, since in the eyes of the League the valid contract would once again be the one that expires at the end of this year, not the one he signed in September.
