Jucuapa, Usulután, October 15, 2024.

At just 28 years old, she is the only woman in Jucuapa who works as an electrician. His path was not easy. Growing up in a community where technical jobs were historically reserved for men was a challenge for her.

However, due to her passion for energy and her determination to improve her future she enrolled in training courses as an electrician in the fourth category organized by AES El Salvador in collaboration with the Salvadoran Institute for the Development of Women (ISDEMU).

«Many times they told me that I am going to burn. People find it strange to see a female electrician. They also ask me if I’m afraid of electricity, and I always answer: no, I’m not afraid of it, I love my job! traffic Ilsia Gutierrez.

Today, her work is not only a reference in her community, but she has provided a light of inspiration to other young women. Wendy, a 20-year-old girl, is his apprentice.

“The first time Hilsia took me to work and started teaching me, I really liked it. “I respect her for all her knowledge and I want to be like her to be a female electrician,” Wendy pointed out.

Illsia’s story is also a story for a new generation of women who are facing the lights of change in the labor landscape of the electricity sector in El Salvador. The inclusion of women in the world of energy is key to a sustainable and equitable future, and it is women like Ilsia and Wendy who are at the forefront of that change.

The reputation of this duo has grown, and now, instead of surprise, their clients show pride in having a female electrician in their community. Apart from cables and tools, Illsia showed that electricity is genderless, and that technical skills are a matter of effort and knowledge, not stereotypes.

Ilsia’s story is just one of many. In recent years, many women have been part of the electrical sector, helping to reduce the gender gap in the sector and offering a fresh and innovative perspective, which is necessary to move towards the sustainable and equitable development of the country.

At the end of the day, when the sun is setting and the lights go on in the houses of Jucuapa, you can feel the impact of Ilsia’s work and the new generation of female electricians. It is a glow that goes beyond cables and connections: it is the light of a future full of opportunities for all.

When asked about the future, Ilsia does not hesitate to say that she sees many more women in electricity. She dreams that she is not the only woman in Jucuapa who dedicates herself to this profession in the coming years. And with apprentices like Wendy by her side, that dream seems closer to becoming a reality.

Ilsia is the light that illuminates Jucuapa, illuminating not only houses and streets, but also minds and hearts. Her story is a reminder that when barriers are broken, the true power of transformation emerges, and in that process, we all win.
