On Saturday, the Lithuanian basketball players won a very important victory and advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament.
In the last match of Group A, our national team beat Puerto Rico 21:12 and became one of the four strongest teams of the tournament.
We remind you that in the group matches that started on Friday, the Lithuanians beat the Brazilian national team 21:14, but lost to the Netherlands 18:21 after a change.
The Lithuanian national team is represented in Japan by Evaldas Džiaugys, Aurelijs Pukelis, Darius Tarvydas and Šarūnas Vingelis.
Together with Lithuania, the Netherlands national team entered the semi-finals from subgroup A.
The Lithuanians will face the French triple basketball team in the semi-finals.
“We were physical, they played physical too, we shouldn’t have let them down. Now we will have to sleep well and prepare for Sunday”, said Darius Tarvydas after the victory over Puerto Rico.
The semi-finals and final of the qualifying tournament held in Japan will be played on Sunday, and only the winner of this tournament will get a ticket to the Paris Olympics.
