The project to reform the electoral vote for the next municipal elections in Paris, Lyon (Rhône) and Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) is moving forward. This Tuesday, Sylvain Maillard, the boss of the Renaissance deputies in the National Assembly, must meet Anne Hidalgo’s first deputy, Emmanuel Grégoire, to discuss it. Last month, the right arm of the mayor (PS) of Paris regretted to see that the Parisian executive had not yet been consulted on the subject. “We have had no exchange at this stage on the merits,” Emmanuel Grégoire was surprised, even though the mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, had been interviewed.

“We are trying to evangelize elected officials upstream and hope to be able to table the bill in January and have it voted on by the end of 2024,” explains Sylvain Maillard, who is leading this project with Parisian MP David Amiel. The Macronists’ reform would consist of organizing two elections during the next municipal elections: one to designate the mayor and the district council, and a second for the Paris town hall.
