The head of the committee said that fixing the basis of the current economy is the main task of the economic white paper preparation committee. Devapriya Bhattacharya.
The Economic White Paper Drafting Committee held a meeting at the General Economics Department (GED) conference room in Sherbangla Nagar of the capital on Thursday (August 29). After the meeting, he told reporters.
Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya said, we have not come to catch corruption in the country. Our committee will work to determine the extent of corruption in any sector.
He said that the next meeting will be held on Tuesday. The work of this committee is basically an exercise to bring transparency in the economy. Our main task is to fix the foundations of the current economy.
The economist also said that it is not a committee to catch corruption. This committee will tell and advise where the corruption has taken place. The level of corruption and why it happened will come. So that such incidents do not happen again.
Debapriya Bhattacharya said, our committee will help in making new policies. Will act as future protection. Besides, there will be some advice on transition from LDC. What will be the 9th five year plan will be discussed.
He said, this committee will work on three main issues. Analyzing data from the government; Discussions will be held with various stakeholders. If something is ready, it will be revealed ahead of time.
Bank and financial sector corruption will be caught or not? In response to such questions, he said, “I will not evaluate the banking and financial sector reforms.” However, individual sector matters will be discussed. That’s why the banking commission is being made, they will. We will say that suitable people can be placed in these institutions.
Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya said, we will talk about money laundering. It has been discussed. It is a complex process. Even if you find it, you have to file a case in that country. Then proceed according to the laws of that country. And so that no one gets this opportunity, attention should be paid. Those who have done this should be punished.
