He Museum of Modern Art (MAM) celebrates its 60th anniversary and highlights its role in the construction of processes democratic through art and culture.
Its director, Natalia Pollak, He highlighted the importance of this space as a place of encounter and experimentation, of debate and disagreement. He underlined how since its beginnings, the MAM It was conceived as an avant-garde museum dedicated to new artistic trends and innovation.
He also detailed the improvements made in the last six years of his management at the museum, with a historic investment of more than 80 million pesos. This reinforcement included the restoration of the sculpture garden, installation of ramps, elevators, improvement of electrical systems and hydrosanitary.
Brenda Caro, chief curator, highlighted that during this period, the museum held 65 exhibitions, including several abroad in countries such as Germany and France, and has focused on gender-based methodologies, presenting nine exhibitions entirely dedicated to women artists such as Remedios Varo and Margarita Nelkento name a few.
The inclusion program has been another priority of the MAM, With initiatives such as visits mediated by blind and deaf people, the program “Art for Autism”, and the upcoming creation of a 100% accessible website.
He also announced the upcoming exhibition A Tuna and a Tower of Light on a Desk and other special events such as Sound Forestwithin the framework of the museum’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
Finally, Marlene Lelo de Larrea, Deputy Director of the museum, presented the commemorative catalogue of the anniversary, a testimony to the historical legacy of the museum, which in 496 pages allows the reader to navigate through the content as they would do in the museum’s halls.
This volume combines significant aesthetic and documentary value, and its limited edition of 2,000 copies makes it not only a collector’s item, but a true gem for lovers of art and the history of the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City.
