Two Dhaka University Students Sworn in as Government Advisers
Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, two coordinators of the Dhaka University student movement and the anti-discrimination student movement, were appointed as advisers to the interim government on Thursday (August 8) night. They were given responsibility for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Nahid Islam expressed humility, stating, “The time for celebration has not come. This achievement is the result of the blood of martyrs and the sacrifices of countless people. There is still a long way to go. Rebuilding Bangladesh and creating a new political system are among our commitments. We must continue to awaken the youth generation.”
Asif Mahmud echoed this sentiment, writing on Facebook, “I pledge to fulfill my responsibilities with honesty and devotion, honoring the sacrifices of our martyrs. My purpose in the interim government is to fulfill the promises of the student-citizen uprising.”
He also cautioned against self-serving motives, writing, “Avoid lobbying for personal gain. This could damage our relationship. If you have suggestions for the country’s formation, please share them with me.”
