The main lines of the strategy were drawn up in November 2020, when the Covid pandemic had highlighted the weaknesses and dependencies of the European Union (EU) in terms of medicines.
On paper, the project does not lack ambition. It is ” creating a single market for medicines, that is to say a“sustainable and patient-centric pharmaceutical environment in which EU industry can innovate, thrive and continue to be a global leader ».
