At today’s session, the Government of the Republic of Armenia approved the amendment of Resolution 1428-N of September 1, 2005 “On establishing the minimum standards of conditions necessary for children and adolescents to engage in physical culture and sports”, which was developed by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia. .

The age limit for children admitted to sports school according to sports has been revised, reducing it by one year.

From September 1, 2022, in children’s and youth sports schools that are SNOC, from September 1, 2024, in all children’s and youth sports schools, regardless of the organizational and legal form, admission and training in various sports will be organized starting from the age indicated below:

  • Sports gymnastics (girls and boys), artistic gymnastics, figure skating, chess – 5 years old (instead of the previously approved 6 years old).

  • Table tennis, sports acrobatics, sports dances, swimming, diving, football, chess – 6 years old (instead of the previous 7 years old).

  • Athletics, wrestling, judo, sambo, skiing, basketball, badminton, cross-country skiing, chess: 7 years old (instead of the previous 8 years old).

  • Water polo, volleyball, handball, fencing, boxing, rowing: 8 years old (instead of the previous 9 years old).

  • Cycling, sailing, equestrian, shooting, biathlon: 9 years (instead of the previous 10 years).

  • Archery, triathlon, weightlifting (boys): 10 years (instead of 11 years).

  • Weightlifting (girls): 11 years old (instead of 12 years old).

The basis for the decision was the recommendations received from the sports federations and experts in the field regarding the revision of the minimum age for children to enter sports school. The new regulations have been discussed and agreed with various sectors, including health professionals.

It is based on the fact that the holding of junior youth championships (from 12 years old) in various sports, in order to ensure proper participation, it is necessary to start training at an earlier age.

The change is expected to ensure proper participation in junior youth championships in various sports.
