The Minister of Culture indicated that in August, the Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the industry, will start work on identifying what needs to be changed both in terms of the rules of the MAF competition, as well as the implementation and reporting process.
“We have to build this system in such a way that it supports media activities and the creation of independent, high-quality, socially significant content,” Lāce added.
If a new institutional support mechanism is created, it will also be in the form of a competition, she said.
“We need to think about how we explain the conditions of every tender, which refer to the activities to be supported, to the estimates, to the principles of how the media develop their offers to receive MAF funding,” said Lāce.
LETA already reported that in July the regional newspaper “Ludzas Zeme” ceased operations. The editor of the newspaper, Laima Linuža, said that instead of the expected serious support, they “received kopecks” from MAF.
Also, it has already been reported that the publishers of “s” appealed to the court against the Society Integration Fund for not granting state support, claiming that groups of likes and dislikes are secretly formed in the structure where decisions are made on the allocation or non-allocation of budget funds.
