The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan responded to the statement of the National Security Service of RA about the intention to provide maps of mined areas to Baku, noting that Azerbaijan took note of that statement.

According to them, although the maps transferred before that indicated that 400,000 mines were buried in those areas, according to the Azerbaijani side, the number of mines exceeds 1 million. According to them, in 2020 then, where the Russian peacekeeping forces were stationed, more than 500,000 mines were placed.

“This statement of the Armenian side proves that its intention is not to support the humanitarian process, and this step cannot be evaluated as a means of strengthening confidence. The Azerbaijani side is waiting for Armenia to submit accurate maps of all mined areas, which have not been fully submitted to Azerbaijan so far.

Along with that, urgent measures should be taken in order to provide information from Armenia about the fate of about 4,000 Azerbaijanis who have gone missing in the last 30 years, as well as the places of mass burials of Azerbaijanis,” said the statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
