The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation entered the Far Eastern public movement “Mayak” into the register of foreign agents. This was reported in a statement on the agency’s website.
“The register of unregistered public associations performing the functions of a foreign agent includes the Far Eastern public movement Mayak,” the message says. Also included in this list is the Autonomous non-profit organization for the implementation of social and legal programs “Lilith”.
The status of a foreign agent has existed in Russia since 2012, when amendments to the law on non-profit organizations (NPO) were adopted. The media began to be recognized as foreign agents at the end of 2017, and individuals at the end of 2020. Earlier it became known that since 2017, the Ministry of Justice has already included 103 publications and individuals in the register of foreign media agents, most of them this year.
