According to RA Finance Minister Tigran Khachatryan, it is planned to allocate 850.9 million drams to the Public Services Regulatory Commission in the coming year, compared to 837.6 million drams of the budget approved in 2021, the increase is 1.6 percent. 1 program covering 2 events will be implemented.

Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, Garegin Baghramyan, said that 89 percent of the allocated money will be used to pay employees’ salaries, and 11 percent will be used to ensure the normal operations of the structure.

According to the legislation, the commission will allocate 1 percent of the amount, about 8.5 million drams, to non-governmental organizations engaged in the protection of consumer interests and other expenses.

According to Babken Tunyan, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly, the money allocated to non-governmental organizations is not used very effectively. He wondered if it is not more appropriate to use those funds through other mechanisms. Garegin Baghramyan explained that this issue was discussed last year as well and it was considered appropriate to assign this function aimed at protecting the interests of consumers to the Human Rights Defender or the employees of his office.

“For this, it was necessary to make a legislative change. Initiating legislative changes, as far as I know, was reserved for the Defender of Human Rights,” he noted.
