The drawings of the artists can become even more exciting than their paintings, since we notice in them the stroke, the pulse, the nerve, without pigments that mask them. Even more, they bare their soul in autograph letters that were intended for privacy, never for them to see the public light. In them they make confessions to their wives and friends, confide in their colleagues, tell them about their desires and frustrations, their projects and dreams…

the swiss collector Anne-Marie Springer treasures more than 2,000 letters, from the fifteenth century to the 70s of the twentieth, gathered in the last 27 years. Thirty-four of them, selected by Clara Marcellán, are paired, until September 25to twenty works from the Thyssen Museum, painted by artists who are authors or recipients of the letters.
