The Society of National Music and Global Culture (National Music & Global Culture Society, President – Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, laureate of an international competition, Professor Nargiz Aliyarova) holds the IV International Composer Competition from March to November with the support of the Azerbaijan State Committee for Work with Diaspora and the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan , reports Day.Az.

This competition is the first and only international composition competition in the history of music in Azerbaijan. The current year is dedicated to Azerbaijani folk songs. The purpose of the competition is to widely promote our folk songs, which have been subject to plagiarism, and the fact that they belong specifically to Azerbaijani folk art. Composers from all over the world, regardless of age, will be able to take part in the competition. In accordance with the terms of the competition, each participant must present an instrumental work (no more than 5 performers), composed based on the theme of any or more of the 10 Azerbaijani folk songs selected by the organizing committee. The works will be presented to the jury in the form of an audio recording as well as a PDF file. The title of the work participating in the competition will indicate the origin of the melody used and its belonging to Azerbaijani folk art.

On March 15 of this year, the terms of the competition were announced. Until July 1, participants can submit their work. Until July 15, the jury will familiarize itself with the works and evaluate them. On September 18, the National Music Day of Azerbaijan, the results of the competition will be summed up. The laureates will be announced, competition diplomas will be awarded, as well as cash prizes for 1st place ($2,000), 2nd place ($1,000) and 3rd place ($500).

The premiere of the winning works will take place in September in Baku as part of the International Festival named after U. Hajibeyli. On November 8, Victory Day of Azerbaijan, the final concert of the IV International Composers Competition will take place at Lincoln Center in New York. The best works submitted to the competition will be registered with the US Library of Congress in the form of a collection, published in New York with an individual number and barcode, and distributed throughout the world. It should be noted that a collection of works on the melodies of Uzeyir Hajibeyli and Fikret Amirov has already been published. The first International Composers Competition in 2021 attracted 51 participants from 35 countries, the second in 2022 – 35 participants from 23 countries, and the third in 2023 – 54 participants from 22 countries. Over the years, the winners of the competitions were participants representing Azerbaijan, Great Britain, the USA, Germany, Austria, Spain, Poland, China, Colombia, Georgia and Ukraine.
