President Gustavo Petro and the director of the National Police, General William René Salamanca, have announced the implementation of the New Police Service Model, a strategy designed to transform the police institution into an entity closer to citizens and aimed at preventing crime. crime and promote coexistence in communities.
The central purpose of this new model is to promote dialogue with the community to improve coexistence in the territories and strengthen intelligence capacity to confront criminal gangs.
According to President Petro, this change seeks a demilitarized and more civic-minded Police, one that is in tune with the reality of citizens. and that promotes civic values and citizen culture. The model focuses on the management of coexistence through dialogue and citizen participation as fundamental pillars.
The New Police Service Model involves the consolidation of micro-territories with complementary institutional capacities, characterized by being preventive, differential, focused, flexible and co-responsible. The aim is for the Police to become a dynamic agent and validator of the service through interaction with the community.

The president highlighted the achievements obtained during the first quarter of the year, with a significant reduction in crimes such as kidnapping for ransom, theft from commerce and people, as well as the capture of criminals and the seizure of illegal firearms.
Furthermore, Petro emphasized the importance of strengthening police intelligence both to dismantle criminal gangs and to improve internal police operations.
For his part, the director of the National Police, General Salamanca, pointed out that the change in strategy arises from a participatory analysis process that included citizen security experts, representatives of the academy, local leaders and the community in each territory.
