The new projects of Clara Peya and Marala, sponsored by La Marfà

The new projects of Clara Peya, Marala and Boom Boom Fighters & Cookah P they bear the seal of La Marfà. The Musical Creation Center of Girona promotes eighteen projects during the 2022-2023 season through its creation support programs, which include from the amateur scene to professional musicians. Carola Ortiz, Carles Viarnès & Alba G. Corral, Alba Careta or Remei de Ca la Fresca are some of the musicians who also receive support from La Marfà this year, either in the form of artistic accompaniment, co-production of shows or international residencies, for example.

Through the program ofartistic accompaniment, La Marfà and the Casa de la Música del Gironès offer mentoring and support in hiring professional services to Girona musicians on their way to become professional. This season, La Marfà will accompany the Jamaican festive music band Boom Boom Fighters & Cookah P, who has just released his new album; the Arbucian group Ca la Fresca remedy i Vichy Flockan unconventional rap trio in Catalan, which defends a fun and danceable proposal for a young audience.

With the help of first phonographic recordings, intended for groups from the Girona regions that are starting their careers and have no published records, La Marfà also works hand in hand with the Casa de la Música del Gironès. This year they will go to Nun and Anna Rodrigo.

As for the international residencies of creation, are aimed at high-level professional Catalan artists who carry out joint projects with international musicians. Those selected in this year’s call are: Solo keyan early music ensemble that works, on this occasion, on the repertoires preserved in medieval manuscripts and in the letters of John I from the Crown Archives; Hugo Arán, Márcio Faraco and Marco Oliveirawith the project Each One Sings One, which brings together these three composers and guitarists whose careers are closely linked to Mediterranean, Brazilian and Portuguese music; and finally the composer’s project Manel Riberafor the creation and preparation of the work Variations on the Red Book of Montserrat, a revision in a contemporary key of the Montserrat Codex for cello and guitar.

The program of co-productions, offers artists support and funding when bringing a new album, project or show to the stage and is the result of collaboration between the Girona center and festivals, fairs, facilities or production companies, such as ( a)phonica de Banyoles or the Auditori de Girona. This year it has seven proposals, such as the show Fuck to die forof Don’t know, with a repertoire of creations about death inspired by roots music and with an important weight of synthetic sounds and electronic production; the immersive project thaw of the Ozonians XY o Stopa musical street show of Theater Choir

Other artists in the co-productions program are: Clara Peyawith a co-production with the Girona Auditorium, which will host the premiere of Corset, a new work on the concept of the violence of perfection; the trumpeter and singer Alba Caretawith his third self-titled album or project Hyper_O, by the pianist Carles Viarnès in collaboration with the visual artist Alba G. Corral, which will premiere in Girona before its passage through the Sónar festival.

Finally, the last co-production will be the project cantarerasof the singer and clarinetist Carol Ortiza review in a contemporary key of the repertoire of the oral tradition of the women of the Iberian Peninsula, with folk, jazz and electronic sounds.

In addition, until 2025, the resident orchestra of La Marfà will be the Girona Jazz Project Big Banda 100% Girona formation dedicated to creation in the field of jazz and improvised music directed by the prestigious Valencian saxophonist and composer Ramon Cardo.

Internationalization

Thanks to the agreement with the Ramon Llull Institute, they have been able to develop in the last year internationalization actions with some of the artists linked to La Marfà: Magalí Sare has done a residency in Portugal, Lucas Martínez Project another in the Netherlands, and Toassaves Ensemble in Belgium.

During 2022, in addition, it has also been carried out a pilot test of Ganta 5, a cross-border creation project between Girona and Perpignan in the field of electronic music and the most contemporary musical creation, co-organized between La Marfà and Flashback Le Labo. It is a cross-residency project to promote the creation and dissemination of works and artists within the territory of the Euroregion and which allowed a creative stay and a performance in the two cities with the Girona artist Hiena and Nour Kara and Juliette Capel from Roussillon.

Soon, the new call will open to select the groups and musical formations that will be part of the Creation Support Program for the next season 2023-2024.
