Egyptian Member of Parliament Vahid Karker, who also serves as the Undersecretary of the Transportation Committee in the House of Representatives, stated on Saturday that the official reports regarding the Suez Canal’s revenues confirm daily the improvement in its performance, despite the crisis in Ukraine. He said these things on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the inauguration of the “New Suez Canal”. According to Carker, this gives rise to optimism. He cited data according to which during the first half of 2022 the revenues generated by the canal amounted to $3.6 billion, compared to $3 billion in the first half of 2021, i.e. a 20% increase. Despite the war in Ukraine, the canal’s revenues totaled approximately $546 million in February 2022 and rose to $601 million in March.
The member of parliament therefore called on the Egyptian government to quickly maximize the benefit of the new Suez Canal project, by implementing and attracting significant investments to it.
