WhatsApp keep developing new tools. Currently, according to information from the specialized site WABetaInfo, the application owned by Meta is working on a functionality focused on security that displays a lock screen and that ask the user for a password to access the application interface in its desktop version. That is, in the computer.
Until now, the messaging platform has a section in which the information about the devices linked to the user profile appears, that is, those in which the user has logged in with said account.
From this section, available in the menu, the user can find out the computers on which said account has been active and the last connection time. In addition, you can remotely log out of each of them.
The company is now developing a new functionality focused on privacy which serves as an additional security measure to protect the application from unauthorized access when they do not use their devices.
As WABetaInfo has been able to verify, the company is working on a blocking option, which will start testing in a future WhatsApp Desktop update with a beta version. This system includes a screen that displays the account’s profile picture, your username, and a text field to enter a password, and will appear each time the app is opened.
In principle, this blocking system is optional and the key will not be shared with the application, but will be saved locally on the device on which WhatsApp Desktop has been installed. So, in case you lose your password, you must log out of the app and log in again in this ‘app’ for computers, previously linking the device with the QR code.
This portal has indicated that this feature, available on Android and iOS, is currently under development for desktop, so the final version could contain new elements in the blocking interface. Additionally, WhatsApp could also implement functionality that would allow users to lock these Mac devices using Touch ID.
