Bangladesh: Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus to Lead Interim Government
Three days after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned, Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus will lead an interim government in Bangladesh. He is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka from France later today. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place at 8pm tonight.
The decision to appoint Yunus was made after discussions with political parties and students. The interim government is expected to have 15 members.
In a statement, Yunus appealed for calm and urged citizens to refrain from violence or property destruction. He expressed confidence in the youth’s ability to rebuild the country.
“We should not lose this victory due to any mistake of ours,” Yunus said. “I appeal to all to remain calm in the current situation and refrain from all forms of violence, destruction of immovable and immovable property.”
