Time.news – Russia once again praises China’s “balanced” position on the war in Ukraine and points the finger at the “obstacles created by Kiev and the West” to achieve peace. The Chinese special envoy for the search for a solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Li Hui, arrived in Moscow today: in the last leg of his long diplomatic tour, the Chinese special representative met for about an hour and a half Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

A cordial conversation between the two diplomats, according to what transpires from Moscow, which confirms harmony with Beijing, just three days after Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin visited China. Lavrov praised Beijing’s “willingness to play a positive role in resolving the conflict,” underlined the Russian Foreign Ministry.

China’s stance, which it says is neutral with respect to the “Ukrainian crisis,” as Beijing calls it, has come under criticism in the West. For the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, “there is no panacea to solve the crisis” and only last Tuesday, in Beijing, the Chinese leader confirmed China’s “firm support” for Russia on issues of “fundamental interest”.

China’s position has been reiterated several times by Li himself in meetings in recent days. During the mission, the Chinese envoy reaffirmed his commitment to reaching a ceasefire with his interlocutors, who on more than one occasion underlined the importance of national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Ukraine. A point, the latter, still controversial, with Beijing which would recognize the annexed regions to Russia, according to what the RIA Novosti agency wrote today.

The meeting between Li and Lavrov comes a few days after the one with the Ukrainian foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, and with the president Volodymyr Zelensky, and after talks with Poland, France and Germany. China speaks of a consensus building around the search for a solution to the conflictbut remains in positions different from those of the West for never having condemned Russian aggression.

Beijing shows harmony with Moscow and constantly criticizes Washington. In conversation with senior European Union officials, the Chinese envoy asked Brussels for more strategic autonomy and efforts for stability on the European continent, in what appears to be a veiled reference to the role of the United States, which Beijing accuses of ” add fuel to the fire” of the conflict.
