The Oviedo Cup, the traditional grassroots football tournament held in the Asturian capital at Easter, is already heating up with the draw for the preliminary phase, which took place yesterday at the Castillo de La Zoreda.
The competition begins on April 1 in a record edition for the organization of the tournament, with 514 teams registered. One of the main novelties of the Oviedo Cup 2023 will be the creation of a women’s tournament, which will be held on April 1 and 2 with 16 teams.
On the other hand, the organization of the Oviedo Cup has made an effort to have more Asturian teams in the final phase of the tournament, the one that has the greatest impact, and 30 more places have been set up.
This year’s edition will also be special due to its international impact, as there will be teams from the United Arab Emirates, Portugal and, for the first time, a German one. The organization of the tournament estimates that more than 35,000 people will arrive to follow the tournament matches. The almost 5,000 reserved places represent close to the entire hotel capacity in Oviedo.
