The Palestinian Ministry of Health recorded the first case of West Nile fever in Jenin Governorate, where doctors suspected that symptoms identical to the disease were present, and after carrying out the necessary tests, the infection was confirmed.
The ministry said in a statement yesterday, Saturday, “West Nile fever is transmitted by mosquitoes, and its symptoms are very similar to those of the flu, with an increase in body temperature, as the symptoms appear 3 days after the mosquito bite, and the age groups most at risk of infection are the elderly”.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that “primary health care and environmental health teams, in cooperation with all the competent authorities in Jenin Governorate, are implementing a campaign to combat mosquitoes in the neighborhoods of Jenin and its camp, noting that its specialized campaign crews implement. to fight mosquitoes in all the governments of the country.”
The Ministry emphasized that “the spread of mosquitoes has increased significantly due to the repeated raids carried out by the Zionist army and targeting infrastructure, especially water and sewage networks in Jenin and other cities and regions of Palestine.”
The Ministry asked citizens to protect themselves from infection by wearing long clothes that cover the arms and legs when outside the home during the hours of mosquito activity at night, using mosquito nets when sleeping, using mosquito repellent skin creams, and putting nets (slats) on the windows of the houses, as well as cooperating with the teams.
It should be noted that the Zionist Ministry of Health had announced the death of 11 Zionists from West Nile fever, and 153 people diagnosed with the virus as of Wednesday, July 3, 2024..
It is worth noting that West Nile fever is a viral disease transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. It was discovered in 1937 in West Nile State in Uganda.
