The distinguished Syrian artist, Thanaa Debsi, died after a struggle with illness, at the age of 83, after a career full of achievements.

The late artist’s artistic career was distinguished by her wealth of dozens of theatrical, cinematic and television works.

The late artist was born in the city of Aleppo in 1941. She is the wife of the artist Salim Sabry, her daughter, the artist Yara Sabry, and her son-in-law, the artist Maher Salibi.

She began her career in the mid-1950s, and was one of the founding artists who launched theater in Syria in the early 1960s. She played in many theatrical roles over many years.

The late woman played many television roles and left her own mark in famous series, such as Ghazlan in the Forest of Wolves, Time of Shame, Behind the Sun, Haret Al-Qasr, Haroun Al-Rashid, Shajarat Al-Durr, the second story from the biography of Bani Hilal.

As well as her roles that were firmly entrenched in the viewer’s memory, in the works of The Green Princess, The Wolves, Abu Kamel, Green Hearts, Iron Gate, Biography of Al Jalali, Rainbow 2, The Four Seasons, Letters of Love and War, Interpretation of Longings, and many others.

In addition, the late great woman received many awards and honors during her artistic career, including being honored at the Damascus Theater Festival in 2004, and she was one of the honorees in the Syrian Culture Celebration in 2020.

The Syndicate of Artists in Syria and the Syrian cultural community mourned the late Thanaa Debsi, expressing their sadness at her passing.
