“The pension reform does not sign the retirement of the reforms”, claims Olivier Véran

While the government faces a tenth day of mobilization against the pension reform on Tuesday, its spokesperson Olivier Véran assured, in an interview with Sunday newspaperthat the executive would continue to roll out a roadmap “reagent”, beyond the pension reform which, despite blockages and disputes, “do not sign the retreat of the reforms”.

“There will be other reforms tomorrow, led by us or by the governments that will succeed us”, underlines Olivier Véran with the weekly. Among these future texts, some “will be unpopular but necessary for the future of the country”and validated “democratically (…) by legitimate Parliaments”he insists.

The political future of pension reform is now in the hands of the Constitutional Council as tensions in the street grow. “We cannot let the idea take hold that violence is a justifiable or understandable reaction”notes Olivier Véran.

The government spokesperson says the executive will “reagent” the parliamentary agenda for “respond to the daily concerns of the French: access to doctors, class closures, access to identity papers”.

“Better involve the people in decision-making”

He adds : « [Faute de majorité absolue à l’Assemblée], we also have to think about how to proceed without necessarily resorting systematically to the law” and also said to want “better involve the people in decision-making”.

In the wake of Emmanuel Macron, Olivier Véran assures that the executive intends to collaborate with the union forces, which are however set up against the pension reform. “We will not agree on the decline at 64, but alongside this question there are many others, essential for the French, on which we want to work with them”he argues, citing the “career end management”the ” retraining “ or even the “revaluation of wages below the minimum wage”.
