The police and the Shin Bet confirmed this evening (Thursday) that the incident of the trampling of the student of the Air Force Technical School in Be’er Sheva took place on a nationalistic basis.

The suspect in the stampede will be brought tomorrow morning for a hearing on the extension of his detention before the Ashkelon Magistrate’s Court.

In the run-over incident that took place this morning around 9:00 on Ilan Ramon Street in Beer Sheva, the suspect driver, a 39-year-old resident of Rahat, emerged from behind the 18-year-old who was walking on the sidewalk.

The driver increased speed towards the student, hit him and threw him a few tens of meters. Then he ran away from the scene and was caught by police forces and civilians about a hundred meters from the scene – and he was taken in for questioning.

Later in the day, security forces raided his home in Berhat.

The suspect uploaded a video to his Tiktok account, in which he is heard saying: “This is not a threat, but for ourselves and our honor – we are ready to give up our lives”, this against the background of the double attack that took place in Jerusalem yesterday, in which the boy Aryeh Shechopek Hi was murdered. d.

Before his investigation by the Shin Bet, the offending driver told his lawyer that it was an accident, and claimed: “I lost control of the vehicle.”

Two days ago, he blocked the parking lot of a Beer Sheva resident, and a verbal argument developed between the two, resulting in both being questioned by the police after mutual complaints regarding threats.

The condition of the injured young man is moderate. He was evacuated after the attack to receive medical treatment at Soroka Hospital in the city, where he underwent surgery.

Dr. Assaf Aker, director of the Orthopedic Trauma Unit at Soroka Hospital, said: “We have completed the surgical treatment, currently his condition is stable. He is transferred to recovery and from there he will be transferred to further hospitalization in the orthopedic department.”
