The Port of Bilbao inaugurates a direct container service with the US

by time news

The CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal of the Port of Bilbao yesterday hosted the inauguration of the new USX – United States Express service, consigned by Marítima Dávila and promoted by the company Ellerman City Liners, which directly connects Bilbao with the east coast of the US. The new service forms part of the commitment to the Port of Bilbao that the company has defined in its corporate strategy.

The new service is weekly and is operated by container ships with a capacity of more than 3,000 TEUS, load capacity of a standard container 20 feet (6.1 m.) long by 8 feet (2.4 m.) wide by 8 .5 feet (2.6 m.) high. In this case, the inaugural ship has been the ‘Bux Favourite’.

Among the main advantages of the new service is the reduction in times, which means a transit of 15 days for imports and 18 days for exports on the connections between Bilbao and New York, thanks to its direct connection.

This means, according to sources from the Port of Bilbao, a “very competitive offer in a context where trade relations between the two areas are very important”, and also allows “highlighting the geostrategic location of the port of Biscay at an international level”.

The US is Bizkaia’s main non-EU partner, so the introduction of this service is “a commitment to continue promoting the growth of connections and businesses in the ‘hinterland’ of the port”, indicated those responsible for the Biscayne dock.
