The prefect of Loire-Atlantique accepted the request for resignation of the mayor of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins who had expressed the desire to leave office after having been the subject of threats and violence, learned on Wednesday May 31 the Agence France-Presse at the prefecture.

“The prefect accepted his resignation, in accordance with the request of the mayor”said the prefecture, confirming information from the daily West France. “The letter has been sent, his resignation is effective from the date of notification of this letter”added the prefecture, specifying that the letter was addressed “week 22”or since the beginning of the week.

Asked Wednesday morning, the town hall of Saint-Brevin was not immediately able to confirm receipt of this letter.

Hearing in the Senate of the prefect and the sub-prefect this Wednesday

The mayor, Yannick Morez (DVD), had been the subject of threats from the far right since the formalization, at the end of 2021, of the transfer near a school in his town of a reception center for asylum seekers. asylum (Cada) which had already existed in Saint-Brevin since 2016. These attacks had culminated on March 22 in the early morning with the fire of two vehicles of the mayor in front of his home, the facade of which had also been affected by the flames while he slept there with his family.

This decision comes as the prefect of Loire-Atlantique, Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze, and the sub-prefect of the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire, Michel Bergue, are summoned to the Senate, this Wednesday, to be heard by the members of the law commission, “on the support given to the mayor of Saint-Brevin”.

Heard by the Senate Law Commission and received at Matignon on May 17 by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, the elected official, a doctor by profession, had criticized the State, and in particular the sub-prefect of the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire. , for his lack of support within the framework of this transfer project, yet decided by the State. Yannick Morez had maintained his desire, announced three weeks ago, to resign from his duties and leave the seaside resort where he has been living for thirty-two years with his family.
