The holy Eid-ul-Fitr is knocking at the door. However, at the end of Ramadan, the price of watermelon suddenly increased. Although it is not sold at the price of kg, each watermelon weighing four to five kg is being sold at the price of Tk 500 in the market. Watermelon weighing 3-4 kg is available for 300 to 400 taka. On Thursday (April 20) afternoon, such a picture was seen in the Shambuganj market of Mymensingh city.

Naim Mia, a watermelon seller at the market, told Jago News that the month of Ramadan has come to an end. The demand for watermelon has increased in the market. But imports are low. That’s why the price is a bit higher. Now also sold as watermelon pieces. There is no watermelon under 250 rupees in my shop. Each watermelon will weigh 2.5 to 3 kg.

Rafiqul Islam, the seller of Rafiqul fruit store in the same market, said that there is no watermelon under 500 taka in my shop. Selling as a piece. Each watermelon will not be less than 4-5 kg.

In front of that shop, I spoke with a garment worker named Aakash Mia. He works in a garment factory in Gazipur Board Bazar area. Aakash Mia said, I am going home to celebrate Eid with my family. There are parents, brothers and sisters at home. I bought watermelon for them with 500 rupees. There is no watermelon under it.

Talked there with another garment worker Enamul Haque. He works in a garment factory in Konabari area of Gazipur. He said, I am returning home on Eid. The whole family is waiting. So bought some fruits for family members. But, suddenly the price of fruits has increased. I bought a watermelon for 500 taka. The weight will be about four kg.

Mojibur Rahman, another watermelon seller in Shambuganj market, said, I am selling watermelon for Tk 250 to Tk 300 per piece. When asked about the reason for the sudden price increase, he said that the production and import of watermelon has decreased. But the demand for watermelon is high in the market. Due to these reasons, the price has increased.

Standing in front of Mojibur Rahman’s shop, he spoke to a young man named Emdadul Haque. He said, boys and girls are serious about eating watermelon. So I came to buy watermelon. But the price is too high. Still, I was forced to buy a watermelon for 300 taka.

In this regard, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulak Kanti Chakraborty told Jago News that we are monitoring the market regularly. The matter will be investigated and necessary action will be taken.
