The procedure of the police in Ramadan angered Minister Itamar Ben Gabir

by time news

After the tensions surrounding the handling of the demonstrations, the next professional tensions between the Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gabir and the police are just around the corner, and this time it could be even more explosive.

It was reported in “Israel Hayom” that last week there was a preparation discussion for the month of Ramadan with the high command of the police and Minister Ben Gabir. During the discussion, the police officers said that during Ramadan they try to reduce presence and enforcement in regular activities, in order not to agitate the area.

Among other things, senior police officers mentioned that during the month they try to avoid the demolition of illegal construction, reduce the distribution of reports on current events and less visible traffic enforcement activity.

Ben Gvir was outraged by the comments and claimed that it was unthinkable that reports would not be handed out in Bnei Brak in the run-up to Passover, or that during Purim drunk drivers would be able to roam freely in Jerusalem. During the discussion, Ben Gvir defined the policy as a ‘troll’.

Police officials said in response that the police policy in the month of Ramadan is not new and has been going on for many years. According to them, in the discussion held on the issue, there was no tension between the minister and the officers.
