Willis became the first black woman elected as district attorney for Fulton County, which covers Atlanta, months after incumbent Joe Biden narrowly defeated Trump in Georgia.
The prosecutor launched the investigation against Trump after The Washington Post revealed in January 2021 that the former president had pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to reverse the results in that state. Raffensperger, who is responsible for certifying the election results.
One of the aspects that distinguishes the Willis case from the other three criminal cases against Trump is its scope: the prosecutor has used to charge Trump with a special law to combat the mob.
