“Agnès no longer responds. » The title of the first of three episodes of the documentary series Until they find the body is the starting point of an extraordinary legal saga. In 1977, Agnès Le Roux, heiress to the famous Nice casino Palais de la Méditerranée, disappeared. Thirty-seven years later, Maurice Agnelet was sentenced to twenty years of criminal imprisonment for the murder of the 29-year-old young woman.

From the start, all suspicion has been placed on this lawyer with a sulphurous reputation who was none other than the lover of the missing woman. But, due to lack of formal proof, Maurice Agnelet escaped justice for a long time. After a first dismissal in 1985, he finally found himself before the Alpes-Maritimes assizes in 2006. Acquitted, he was convicted the following year, then managed to obtain a third trial thanks to a decision by the European Court of Rights of man. It was during this trial that his own son, Guillaume, upset the Ille-et-Vilaine Assize Court by asserting that his father had confessed his guilt to him.

Previously unpublished archival images

At the time, Pascale Robert-Diard, legal columnist for Mondeis present in the room and decides to write The Deposition. The series, which she co-signed with director Rémi Lainé, is the adaptation of this book. It does not focus so much on this legal saga as on the traces that the affair left on the Agnelet and Le Roux families. Without voice-over, the documentary story is built around moving interviews with Patricia and Jean-Charles Le Roux, brother and sister of Agnès, and Guillaume and Thomas Agnelet, son of the condemned man.

The testimonies of those involved in the trial, including Hervé Temime, who died last April, are very strong. Each episode is punctuated by never-before-seen archive images transmitted by the two families. Those of Agnès, reading a book on a boat, dreaming on the beaches of the Promenade des Anglais and playing in front of the camera, serve to not forget that behind the judicial soap opera hid a young woman full of life .
