At the Armenian NPP, the work of assembling the metal regenerative welding system of the reactor body of the 2nd power unit has been completed. They were held from November 25, together with the employees of the NPP as well as “Novovoronezhatomenergoremont” and “TsNIITMASH” companies, and were completed ahead of schedule. The works are organized by “Rusatom Service” JSC within the framework of the contract for upgrading the station and increasing the safety level.
The suction system has passed all relevant checks and is completely ready for operation. Russian specialists will return to the Armenian NPP in April-May of next year to prepare the system installation and welding. The actual procedure will be carried out in 2021, during the 2021 planned-precautionary maintenance at the NPP, due to this, the 2021 PNN will last longer than usual, about 140 days.
Reactor sintering is the most effective way to restore the physico-mechanical properties of the reactor body metal, the physico-mechanical properties of the body metal change during operation under the influence of constant radiation exposure.
This technology was used for the first time in 1987 in the 3rd power unit of the Nororonezhsk NPP. Now this process is being carried out in all the stations, where the extension of the operation period is in progress. Remedial sputtering has already been conducted in ВВЕР-440 reactors at such nuclear power plants as Kola Nuclear Power Plant (Russia), Roven NPP (Ukraine), Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (Bulgaria) and Loviisa (Finland).
