Finland’s ambassador to Russia, Antti Helantera, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry after the signing of an agreement on military cooperation between Washington and Helsinki.
He was warned that Moscow will take retaliatory measures to counter the actions of Helsinki and NATO.
“The Finnish ambassador to the Russian Federation was warned that the Russian side will not leave unanswered the expansion of NATO’s military potential on its border, which is a threat to the security of the Russian Federation, and will take the necessary measures to counteract the aggressive decisions of Finland and its NATO partners. The responsibility of turning the zone of neighborliness into a zone of possible confrontation in this region falls entirely on the current authorities of Finland,” said the Russian Foreign Ministry’s comment.
It should be noted that the agreement on military cooperation between Washington and Helsinki was signed on December 18. According to international press publications, within the framework of this agreement, Finland will provide access to 15 military bases in its country for the US military.
