The automaker from Rüsselsheim has revealed the first photos of the new Opel Frontera. The name is legendary, but the new model has nothing to do with the “iron” off-roader we know from the recent past. Forntera is no longer a classic SUV with a steel chassis, but a modern crossover in the compact family segment. The model will be available in an all-electric version right from its launch on the market, and customers will be able to choose versions with a 48-volt hybrid drive with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine, the so-called mild hybrid.

With the rear seats up, the Frontera offers more than 460 liters of luggage space in the trunk, and with the seats down, the volume increases to 1,600 liters. Additional flexibility is provided by the 60:40 split rear seat, and a two-level adjustable boot floor comes as standard equipment.

The Opel Frontera was a three- or five-door SUV that the German company sold between 1992 and 2004. The Frontera was a true off-roader, but it wasn’t an Opel at all. Just like it’s bigger brother the Monterey, it was a cleverly adapted Opel off-road vehicle from Isuzu.

The new Opel Frontera is a technical version of the Citroen C3 Aircross, adapted for the European market and for Opel.
