At the Yantar plant (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, CEC) a ceremony was held to transfer the ocean research vessel Evgeny Gorigledzhan to the Russian Navy. About it reported in the press office CEC.

“After the announcement of the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy to enlist the vessel in the Navy, the commander of the vessel carried the cloth of the Naval flag in front of the formation of the ship’s personnel and the flag was raised,” the message says.

The research vessel was developed by the Central Marine Design Bureau (TsMKB) “Almaz” (part of the USC) and named after the Soviet and Russian design engineer, chief designer of nuclear submarines Evgeny Gorigledzhan.

The ship will carry out research oceanographic work and environmental monitoring of the oceans. In addition, it is assumed that “Eugene Gorigledzhan” will take part in search and rescue operations.

Formerly TASS wrotethat the ship was intended for the Main Directorate of Deep-Water Research of the Ministry of Defense. It was laid down in March 2016. Its construction was carried out by the Yantar Baltic Shipyard.

Evgeny Gorigledzhan was born in St. Petersburg in 1934. He graduated from the St. Petersburg Marine Technical University (formerly the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute) and began working at the Rubin Central Design Bureau in 1957. Gorigledzhan died in 2014 at the age of 80. Among his awards are the Order of the Badge of Honor, the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree, and others.
