Karen Giloyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia believes that the Sambo World Championship to be held in Armenia will be unprecedented in the history of the sport.
“The fact that holding international championships in Armenia is a vital necessity is indisputable. With this, we popularize our country, show that we can hold competitions of the highest order. In addition, we give our athletes the opportunity to perform under their own roof and we give the fans the opportunity to relate to the great world sport,” he said in a conversation with “Armenpress”.
Giloyan emphasized that the hosting of the Sambo World Championship is thanks to the flawless organization and holding of the previous World Championship of teenagers, young people and youth.
“I think the Sambo World Championship will be unprecedented. We will try to make it the biggest championship ever. We will try to limit the number of invited countries to 100. We are in discussions with international and Armenian federations. We also have an intergovernmental commission that regularly discusses the championship. I am sure that we will hold this championship with a clear front,” Giloyan said.
According to the deputy minister of CSMS, there will be other international tournaments in Armenia next year, but it is still too early to open the brackets.
The 2023 Adult Sambo World Championship will be held on November 10-12 in Yerevan.
