THIRUVANANTHAPURAM ∙ A different protest by students against the fact that some people broke a bench at the bus waiting center alleging that boys and girls are close. Students responded to moral goons by sitting two people together in a seat where only one person can sit. The incident took place near Government Engineering College (CET), Thiruvananthapuram.

When the students reached the bus waiting center on Tuesday evening, they saw that the seat had been cut down to allow only one person to sit. At first the incident was not understood, but when it was realized that this was done to prevent boys and girls from being close, there was a protest. In the meantime, the second year students of the college came forward with an answer.

The girls were protesting by sitting on the boys’ laps on the bench where only one person could sit. Students also shared this picture on social media.

‘Don’t sit next to me, isn’t it? Many people shared the picture with the caption ‘Matil irikulolle’. The incident came to light after it went viral. With this, other students also came forward declaring solidarity. Arya, a student who was part of the protest, said that she did not think that the incident would go viral and get so much support. They said that the general public is understanding things and getting a lot of support.

Earlier, there was a struggle in the college against such discrimination. The protest was against the suggestion that girls should enter the hostel before 6.30 pm. After a three-month strike by a group of students, the time was extended till 9.30 pm.
