Celine Dion shared encouraging words on Stiff Person Syndrome Awareness Day – and surprised her fans with a very special snapshot.
In December 2022, Celine Dion announced on social media that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). The neurological disease causes muscle spasms in the legs and back. The diagnosis led to the singer having to cancel her planned tour.
Now, on an international day of action to raise awareness of Stiff Person Syndrome, the 55-year-old posted a photo of herself with her three sons. Céline Dion is wearing a cream-colored jogging suit, her hair is tied back and she is without make-up.
Her three boys are also dressed casually. 23-year-old Rene-Charles sits in front of his mother. On the left and right are the twins Nelson and Eddy. They are now teenagers and 13 years old. Her sons come from her relationship with René Angélil. Celine Dion was married to him for more than 20 years. The music manager died in 2016 at the age of 73.
Céline Dion wrote about the picture: “As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in the fall of 2022.” Trying to overcome this autoimmune disease has been “one of the most difficult experiences of my life, but I am determined to get back on stage one day and live as normal a life as possible,” the singer added.
“I am deeply grateful for the love and support of my children, my family, my team and all of you!” Dion concluded the post by saying, “I want to extend my support to all those around the world affected by SPS. I want you to know that you can do it! We can do it!”
“She has no control over her muscles”
Céline Dion’s sister Claudette Dion said in an interview with the Canadian TV channel 7 Jours in December 2023: “She works hard, but she has no control over her muscles.” It breaks her heart because Celine Dion “was always so disciplined.”
The musician is now hardly seen in public. Then, at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February, Celine Dion made a surprise appearance to present the Album of the Year award, which went to Taylor Swift. “When I say I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from the bottom of my heart,” she told the audience.
