During Shabbat, a 16-year-old terrorist, a resident of the new Anata, came to a public area between Bar-Lev Street and Shess Hayim Street in Jerusalem, and stabbed a passerby in the back with a knife. Immediately after the stabbing attack, the terrorist fled the scene, and the person who was stabbed with a knife in his back was seriously injured for medical treatment at the hospital. Large police forces of the Jerusalem district under the command of the district commander, arrived at the scene in a short time, closed the scene of the incident and began collecting witnesses and collecting evidence. Police forces began searches for the suspect in the act in several circles in accordance with the description of the terrorist distributed by the Jerusalem District Police.

Less than an hour after the attack during the scans that were carried out in its aftermath, a patrol policeman from the Shalem station of the Jerusalem district identified the suspected terrorist in the stabbing in the area of the football fields in Sheikh Jarrah. When the terrorist noticed the policeman he did not respond to his calls to stop and lie on the ground and tried to escape on foot into the fields, while children and boys were playing there. The policeman rowed into contact and gave chase, during which the policeman climbed a fence and ran after him with a weapon drawn. At one point, the terrorist turned towards the policeman with an object in his hand and the policeman, sensing a danger to his life and those around him, fired a precise shot at him and neutralized the terrorist. Large police forces were called to the scene and the investigation of the attack was assigned to the central unit of the Jerusalem District. The terrorist was seriously injured and was referred for medical treatment.
In assessing the situation that took place last night in the field, the commander of the Jerusalem District, Superintendent Doron Turgeman, praised the performance of the policeman who neutralized the terrorist and said: “The policeman who neutralized the terrorist demonstrated vigilance, determination, striving for contact, courage and great resourcefulness. The precise shooting and his professional performance led to the neutralization of the terrorist and prevented injury to the innocents who were around him. This is what is expected of every police officer in the Jerusalem District and the Israel Police. The police officers must continue to be more alert and vigilant in all areas of activity. We will continue to act against terrorists and terrorism wherever they are, for the security of the citizens of Israel.’

The Commissioner of Police, Chief Superintendent Yaakov Shabtai, praised the police force from the Jerusalem district that led to the neutralization of the terrorist who carried out the stabbing attack today on Bar Lev road in Jerusalem: “From the moment the attack in Jerusalem was reported, the police officers of the Jerusalem district acted with the aim of quickly arresting the terrorist in order to prevent him from continuing to stab Jews throughout the city and to arrest him.
