Russians permanently residing in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) can be called up for military service in the Russian Armed Forces at their own request, Viktor Vodolatsky, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, told TASS .

“If citizens [России]If people living on the territory of the DPR and LPR want to serve in the Armed Forces, then the Rostov regional military commissariat will accept them, register them and draft them into the army, ”the agency’s interlocutor explained. He specified that such conscripts would serve on Russian territory.

Vodolatsky called the issue of ensuring the security and protection of the Russian-speaking population one of the key issues when meeting with residents of the republics. According to him, these people are seriously concerned about the possible invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) into the region.

Earlier, on January 27, Moskovsky Komsomolets, citing the Migration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the DPR, reported that at least 365,000 people with Russian passports live in the republic. In July 2021, Vodolatsky himself said that about 611 thousand residents of both republics received Russian citizenship in a simplified manner.
