The State Film Fund of Azerbaijan has created a personal archive fund of the People’s Artist, film director Tofig Tagizade (1919-1998), the State Film Fund told Day.Az.

The creation of the archival fund is timed to coincide with the 105th anniversary of the birth of Tofig Tagizadeh. The archival fund includes personal documents, diplomas, certificates of honor, photographic documents, materials from newspapers and magazines.

The documents included in the personal archive fund were handed over by son-in-law Tofig Tagizade, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, theater and film actor Firdovsi Atakishiyev, as well as Azerbaijani filmmakers.

Tofig Tagizadeh was born on February 7, 1919 in Baku into a family of teachers. After graduating from school, he entered the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute (now the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry), but did not complete his education, as he volunteered to go to the front during the Second World War. After being wounded, he was demobilized. His love for art prompted him to enter the directing department of VGIK (now the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov).

As a director, Tofig Tagizadeh made such famous films as “Meeting”, “On Distant Shores”, “True Friend”, “Arshin Mal Alan”, “I Was Not a Beauty”, “My Seven Sons”, “Country Season”, “Greetings from the other world.”

Tofig Tagizadeh died on August 27, 1998 in Baku.
