At the session of the RA State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition, today the issue of factual circumstances in the administrative proceedings regarding the concentration initiated on the basis of the application of “Tim” LLC and “Veon Armenia” CJSC was discussed.
In the open part of the session, the reporter presented the main directions of the issue. In particular, it was noted that on June 8, 2020, the above-mentioned companies applied to the State Council of Ukraine, stating that “Tim” LLC plans to acquire 100% of the shares of “Veon Armenia”, asking to allow the concentration, based on which the procedure was carried out in accordance with the established procedure. was initiated.
“Veon Armenia” provides fixed, mobile telephony and Internet access services, sales of equipment. According to the application submitted by the companies, the merger will have a positive impact on the telecommunications industry by providing new services as well as lowering prices.
Gegham Gevorgyan, the President of the RA State Technical University of Armenia, noted that the commission has conducted a large-scale study of the RA telecommunications sector, the developments and concentration transactions taking place in the world in the last 5 years have been studied, the degree of market concentration, the technical capabilities and capabilities of the main market players, the shares, the reciprocity of the offered services have been evaluated. substitutability,
the commodity markets in question were studied, etc.
At the request of the participants of the concentration, the main part of the session was held in secret mode, taking into account that information containing commercial secrets will be presented during the discussions.
In response to the inquiry of the chairman of the commission, the representative of “Tim” LLC assured that in case of approval of the concentration transaction, mass layoffs of the company’s employees will not take place.
