New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal seeking stay of contempt proceedings against Swathi, who had given false testimony in the murder case of engineering student Gokulraj.

Gokulraj, an engineering student from Omalur in Salem district, has been in a relationship with a girl named Swathi who studied with him. In this case, both of them met on June 23, 2015 at Arthanareeswarar Temple in Tiruchengode. After this, Gokulraj was murdered when he did not return home. His body was found on the railway track in East Tintipalayam, Namakkal district.

Following this, 15 people including Yuvraj, founder of Theeran Chinnamalai Counter Council, were arrested for murdering Gokulraj. In this case, the Madurai District Special Court for Prevention of Atrocities Act sentenced 10 people, including Yuvraj, to life imprisonment and acquitted 5 people on March 8, 2022.

The appeal case related to this is going on in the Madras High Court. Accordingly, Swathi, who was present in person for the hearing of the case on November 25 and December 1, had told the court that it was not what was in the video.

After this, Swathi testified in the High Court, concealing the facts. Especially looking at his photo, he said that he did not know who it was. His statement and testimony before the trial court judge and his statement after the indictment were filed differed.

Based on this it is clear that Swati’s report is false. Ignoring the importance of this case, he has given false testimony. So the statement given by Swati is not genuine. Therefore, it ordered that action be taken against him under contempt of court.

An appeal was filed in the Supreme Court by Swati against the contempt order. The petition came up for hearing on Friday (Jan. 6) in a session presided over by Justice MR Shah. Rejecting this petition, the judges refused to stay the contempt proceedings against Swati and dismissed Swati’s appeal.
