The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban movement, which controls Afghanistan, said it will not take part in the meeting scheduled for Sunday in Doha, chaired by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.

The statement notes that the Islamic Emirate (as the Taliban call their government) had previously stated its readiness to attend the meeting provided it “participates as the sole official representative of Afghanistan and if there is an opportunity to hold frank negotiations between the Afghan delegation and the UN on all issues at at the highest level.”

“The participation of the Emirate in the meeting was considered unfavorable due to the lack of progress in this area,” the document notes.

The statement also said that over the past two and a half years, Afghanistan has continued efforts to strengthen the political, administrative, economic, social and security foundations of the system. In addition, the Taliban say they have “made good progress in relations with countries in the region.”

The document also states that the Taliban regularly discussed sanctions, blacklists, and the release of Bank of Afghanistan reserves with the United Nations, Western countries and especially the United States through several channels.
