ANALYSIS – The 2024 finance bill includes several measures aimed at strengthening the technological arsenal. The objective is in particular to finally assess the cost of fraud in France.

During a meeting with tax agents, the Minister for Public Accounts, Thomas Cazenave, looks at the screen of the smartphone handed to him by a tax inspector. “See, we can investigate Le Bon Coin – there, we can see the suspicious number of Ferraris for sale on this site -, but we cannot do the same thing on Facebook’s sales tooleven though we know that it is a favored platform for fraudsters”, explains the agent. The difference between the two platforms? The second requires creating an account to access the content. Investigators can go there to identify cases of fraud but not use the elements in their file.
