“The tomato for research” – Health and Wellbeing – returns to the Italian streets

(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 27 – Back in the main Italian squares, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April, “The Tomato for research. Good for you, good for the environment”, an initiative of the Umberto Veronesi Ets Foundation designed to raise funds and finance research and treatment in the pediatric field, in order to guarantee the best possible care for children with cancer and increase their expectations of recovery. The proceeds from the fundraising will help finance the Palm Research Project research and treatment platform, an international network for the development of new treatments for the treatment of pediatric acute myeloid leukemia. The platform, financed by the Umberto Veronesi Ets Foundation, which will last 5 years, will involve the Bambino GesĂą Pediatric Hospital, the centralized diagnostic laboratory of the Oncohaematology Clinic of Padua, the Department of Experimental Oncology of the European Institute of Oncology of Milan and the Department of Leukemia of the MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston USA). The initiative – informs a note – foresees that for an entire weekend – approximately 1,800 volunteers from the Veronesi Foundation will be involved in more than 400 distribution points between squares, commercial activities, schools, companies to support scientific research aimed at finding a cure for tumors of the youngest. For a minimum donation of 12 euros, a pack of three steel cans of tomatoes will be distributed, in the peeled, pulped and cherry tomatoes versions: an initiative made possible thanks to the collaboration of Anicav (National Association of Vegetable Food Preservation Industrialists) and Ricrea (National Consortium recycling and recovery of steel packaging).
