Seven children and two adults were killed in the shooting at gymnasium No. 175 in the capital of Tatarstan. According to the Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, 18 more children were injured, eight of them received bullet wounds. In addition, as a result of the shooting in the gymnasium, several adults were injured, they are also in the hospital with gunshot wounds, the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said.

“We have lost seven children. These are eighth graders – four boys and three girls, besides this, one teacher and one female worker. In total, we lost nine people. 18 children are in the children’s clinical hospital. Unfortunately, there are those with gunshot wounds, and there are also fractures and bruises. Doctors are doing everything to save the lives of our children. Two adults are in the seventh hospital, and one in the republican clinical hospital. They also have gunshot wounds, ”Minnikhanov said.

Images from social networks show that the evacuation of children from the educational institution at first took place spontaneously, some students jumped from the windows of the third floor. According to unconfirmed reports, from the resulting injuries, two of them died. The details of the first minutes of the tragedy were shared with Kommersant FM by an eyewitness and host of the Zavtracast podcast Maxim Zaretsky.

The attacker turned out to be a 19-year-old former student of this gymnasium, Ilnaz Galyaviev. Judging by the video from the surveillance cameras that are published by the media, he first blew up the school’s entrance doors, and then went inside and opened fire. The attacker used a rather powerful improvised explosive device – inside the building some walls were destroyed and doors were knocked out. In addition, the shooter brought with him a whole arsenal of ammunition – the security forces found several dozen cartridges in his bag. According to media reports, he bought several hundred of them in total.

Kazan TV channel “Novy Vek” recorded an interview with the teacher who taught the lesson on the floor where the shooting took place, as well as with the student and the mother. They described how events developed in the building:

Teacher: “I was teaching the lesson. Heard a pop that looked like an explosion. There were several of them. Closed the doors in the classroom, the windows. I told the guys not to come to the window, sit down along the wall and wait. Then SOBR workers began to bypass the school, got through to us, and accompanied by them, we went outside the school in an organized manner. “

Schoolgirl: “At first we sat in the dining room, heard the pops and immediately quieted down, then we went to the kitchen. After they took us out, we went out through a hole in the fence, and we were told to run home. And my friend and I went. “

Student’s mother: “I was sitting at home. My child is in first grade, I was going to follow him to school, and at that moment I heard an explosion. I looked out from the balcony. Windows flew on the first floor, and I ran straight to the school to the main entrance, but they didn’t let me in. I ran from the other side, because they began to take the children out from all sides. Then they began to tighten up all the equipment. “

In college, where the attacker studied, he was called “quiet and non-contentious.” The young man’s father said that his son did not express negative thoughts and sentiments. According to media reports, Ilnaz Galyaviev was armed with a Turkish automatic Hatsan Escort shotgun, the price of which does not exceed 40 thousand rubles. According to some sources, he received a weapon permit in the neighboring republic of Mari El, in Yoshkar-Ola.

It happened at the end of April – at about the same time he was expelled from the college, the editor-in-chief of the Kazan Internet magazine Enter Danil Gubaidullin told Kommersant: “In college he was characterized as a quiet, non-conflict student. He had been doing an internship since December, but in early January he stopped going to college and cut off contact with the group’s curator. He did not appear to defend practice and exams, so he was expelled. The weapon was officially registered for him, the license was obtained on April 28, that is, literally on the same days when he was expelled from college. “

Shortly before the attack, Galyaviev started a Telegram channel called “God”, in which he warned about his plans. He called himself a god who allegedly appeared in the form of a man to “get rid of all of you.” On the morning of May 11, a young man posted a post with his photo in a mask and a vest with the words “Today I will kill a huge amount of bio-debris and shoot myself.” In the footage from the first interrogation, which are distributed by Telegram channels, the shooter shouts and calls himself “God”: “About two months ago, I realized this. A monster woke up in me, I began to hate everyone. ”

Kommersant FM asked the psychiatrist, associate professor of the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology of the RUDN University Roman Suleimanov to analyze this video and determine whether Galyaviev has signs of mental disorder: “At first glance, this is what psychiatry calls pathological affect. This is a rather extraordinary condition that is infrequent and should be triggered by serious events with a threat to the life or health of the patient himself, showing such a reaction. This is characteristic of emotionally unstable individuals, such as were previously called explosive psychopaths. I read about him in the press, and it does not follow from this that he possessed traits that could characterize him as a psychopath of the excitable circle. There is not much evidence for schizophrenia here either. He explains quite clearly that no one inspired him, that it was not hallucinatory voices that told him about it.

He clearly says: I realized this myself, realized that I hate people – this, apparently, has been accumulating in him for a long time. He himself was a fairly quiet and not very attention-grabbing teenager. Perhaps there were some problems in the family, misunderstandings and a bunch of other factors.

It is unlikely that the attacker will be able to avoid criminal liability and be placed in a hospital. For this to happen, an examination is needed that would prove that the patient at the time of his actions did not give an account of his actions.

It wasn’t here. Apparently, it was not at all difficult for him to demonstrate mental health during the examination before he received a license for this weapon, and he went to this quite deliberately with such a misanthropic antisocial goal. “

May 12 is declared a day of mourning in Tatarstan. The head of the European Parliament, the US Ambassador to Russia, the President of Kazakhstan, the Prime Minister of Armenia and many other international leaders expressed their condolences. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for the murder of two or more persons. Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to urgently work out the tightening of the rules for the circulation of civilian weapons.
